Position: Cost Engineer (MEP OR CSA)

Location: Boise, ID or Childress, TX

Required Skills & Experience

3+ years of experience reviewing, validating, and managing construction change orders within Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) scopes

Experience supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, semiconductor, or data center construction projects

Hands-on experience utilizing Bluebeam Revu for drawing review, quantity takeoffs, scope verification, and change order validation

Proven ability to evaluate contractor change order requests for labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and schedule impacts related to MEP systems

Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction systems, including HVAC, piping, ductwork, electrical distribution, switchgear, controls, and plumbing infrastructure

Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and contract documents to validate change order pricing and scope impacts

Strong cost analysis and estimating experience with the ability to challenge contractor pricing and identify cost-saving opportunities

Advanced Excel skills for cost tracking, reporting, and financial analysis

Experience collaborating with contractors, project managers, construction managers, and project controls teams to resolve cost discrepancies and drive change order resolution

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Data center or semiconductor construction experience

Experience with owner-side project controls or cost engineering

Experience with Primavera P6 or similar project controls tools

Job Description

Insight Global is looking for a Cost Engineer - MEP to support large-scale construction projects within the data center and advanced manufacturing space. This individual will spend the majority of their time reviewing and validating contractor change order requests related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scopes. On a daily basis, they will utilize Procore to evaluate change orders, verify labor and material costs, review drawings and specifications, analyze schedule impacts, and ensure pricing is aligned with contractual requirements. They will work closely with project managers, construction teams, subcontractors, and project controls personnel to identify cost risks, resolve pricing discrepancies, and provide recommendations for change order approval. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of MEP construction systems and is comfortable challenging contractor pricing while maintaining project budgets and financial accuracy.
