Follow established procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping of patient test results.
Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are processed similarly to patient specimens.
Analyze specimens using approved testing techniques in accordance with department SOPs.
Review and release test results accurately while adhering to quality control policies.
Document and perform instrument calibrations, maintenance, and any corrective actions taken during testing.
Follow safety guidelines outlined by CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and other relevant standards to ensure a safe working environment.
Identify and resolve issues affecting test performance or reporting, escalating when necessary.
Report STAT or critical results promptly to clients following departmental procedures.
Maintain comprehensive records of all testing performed and ensure reagents/test kits are properly labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates.
Participate in ongoing training, safety sessions, and departmental meetings to stay current with procedures and regulations.
Assist in inspections and participate in quality assurance activities as needed.
Maintain the general appearance of the laboratory workspace, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
Required Skills
Solid understanding of basic and high-complexity laboratory testing procedures.
Strong computer skills with the ability to work across multiple laboratory information systems.
Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) practices.
Ability to review, interpret, and accurately report laboratory test results.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills to identify and address testing issues.
Additional Skills & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field preferred; or an Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from recognized organizations such as ASCP or AMT is highly desirable.
Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience, preferably in high-complexity testing.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with team members and clients.
Ability to prioritize multiple procedures and handle shifting demands efficiently.
Must be able to work in a clinical laboratory setting and comply with safety regulations.
