Graduate Town Planner

Burton Recruitment
Preston, ENG, GB Full Time

Job Description

An established and growing chartered surveyors and planning consultancy near Preston is looking to appoint a talented graduate to train as a Town Planner. This is a genuine opportunity to launch a career in planning within a practice that acts for everyone from private clients to national companies, with the variety, mentoring and progression to build a strong professional foundation. No prior planning experience or planning degree is needed, just the calibre and drive to learn the profession properly.

\n

You'll join an experienced planning team and be given real responsibility early, working across residential, commercial and rural schemes rather than being kept to the sidelines. The firm has a strong reputation across the Northwest and is known as a friendly, supportive place that invests in its people.

\n

The role

\n

Working alongside senior planners, you will:

\n
    \n
  • Support the preparation and management of planning applications from start to determination
  • \n
  • Carry out site appraisals and research to inform advice on development potential
  • \n
  • Help produce planning statements, reports and supporting documents
  • \n
  • Liaise with clients, local planning authorities and consultants
  • \n
  • Keep on top of changes in planning policy and national legislation
  • \n
\n

What we're looking for

\n

A bright, ambitious graduate with the calibre to be trained into planning:

\n
    \n
  • A strong degree, a 2:1 or first, ideally from a well-regarded university
  • \n
  • Standout academics and achievements, whether awards, scholarships or other distinctions
  • \n
  • A genuine self-starter who takes initiative and works things out rather than waiting to be told
  • \n
  • Sharp written, research and analytical skills, and real attention to detail
  • \n
  • An interest in the built and rural environment and a commitment to charter as a planner
  • \n
  • A full driving licence
  • \n
\n

A planning or built-environment degree is welcome but not required. We're more interested in ability, work ethic and attitude, and will fully support the right person into the profession.

\n

What's on offer

\n
    \n
  • Strong starting salary
  • \n
  • Full support towards RTPI chartership and your APC
  • \n
  • Structured mentoring from experienced, chartered planners
  • \n
  • A varied caseload and early responsibility
  • \n
  • A friendly, established team that genuinely develops its people
  • \n
