About the Role

\n

Northampton General Hospital is recruiting a Senior Hand Therapist to join its specialist Hand Therapy Service on a fixed-term maternity cover basis.

\n

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with a passion for Hand Therapy to work within a highly regarded multidisciplinary team supporting patients with complex hand injuries and conditions across Trauma & Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery services.

\n

Key Responsibilities

    \n
  • \n

    Manage a specialist Hand Therapy caseload from assessment through to discharge

  • \n
  • \n

    Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment programmes for patients with a wide range of hand conditions and injuries

  • \n
  • \n

    Design, fabricate, and fit static and dynamic splints

  • \n
  • \n

    Deliver evidence-based rehabilitation and exercise programmes

  • \n
  • \n

    Work closely with consultants, therapists, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary colleagues

  • \n
  • \n

    Support patient education and self-management strategies

  • \n
  • \n

    Supervise junior therapists, therapy support staff, and students

  • \n
  • \n

    Participate in service development, audit, governance, and quality improvement projects

  • \n
  • \n

    Contribute to departmental training and professional development activities

  • \n
\n

What We’re Looking For

\n

Essential

\n
    \n
  • \n

    Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy

  • \n
  • \n

    HCPC Registration

  • \n
  • \n

    Experience managing Hand Therapy patients within Trauma & Orthopaedics and/or Plastic Surgery

  • \n
  • \n

    Experience of splinting across a wide range of clinical conditions

  • \n
  • \n

    Knowledge of upper limb anatomy, conditions, and surgical procedures relevant to Hand Therapy

  • \n
  • \n

    Evidence of ongoing CPD and professional development

  • \n
\n

Desirable

\n
    \n
  • \n

    Previous NHS Hand Therapy experience at Band 6 level

  • \n
  • \n

    BAHT Level 1 Training

  • \n
  • \n

    Membership of BAHT, RCOT, or CSP

  • \n
  • \n

    Experience supervising junior staff and students

  • \n
  • \n

    Practice Educator qualification

  • \n
  • \n

    Experience fabricating dynamic splints

  • \n
