The opportunity to take ownership of a large-scale service operation within a leading plant hire businessLead and develop an experienced engineering team of approximately 25 fitters and mobile engineersManage a significant fleet of around 1,200 plant and construction equipment unitsA role where you can genuinely influence performance, improve efficiency and make a real impactJoin an established and growing business with a strong reputation within the industryOngoing training and development opportunities to support your career progressionExcellent benefits package including 25 days holiday + bank holidays, subsidised gym membership, enhanced leave benefits, wellbeing support and regular company eventsThe Opportunity We are working with a leading plant hire business based in Hemel Hempstead who are looking for an experienced Service Manager to take ownership of a busy and high-performing service operation.This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Service Manager who enjoys leading from the front, managing people, improving performance and ensuring a large fleet remains operational, compliant and ready to meet customer demand.You will be responsible for managing a fleet of approximately 1,200 units and leading a team of around 25 fitters and mobile engineers, ensuring the service department operates safely, efficiently and effectively.This role would suit an experienced Service Manager from a plant hire, construction equipment, heavy engineering or similar environment who thrives in a fast-paced operational setting.Key Responsibilities As Service Manager , you will be responsible for:Taking full ownership of the service department and driving performance dailyLeading, motivating and developing a team of fitters and engineersManaging servicing, inspections, repairs and breakdown response across a large fleetEnsuring equipment is maintained to a high standard and available to meet customer requirementsWorking closely with the Workshop Supervisor and wider operational teamsReducing downtime and improving service efficiencyIdentifying opportunities for continuous improvement and cost savingsMaintaining high standards of health & safety, compliance and qualityDelivering team briefings and toolbox talks to ensure clear communicationSupporting a positive and productive engineering cultureWhat we are looking for We are looking for an experienced Service Manager with:Previous experience managing a service, workshop or engineering operationA background within plant hire, construction equipment, heavy engineering or a similar environmentExperience leading and developing engineering teams, fitters or mobile engineersStrong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesA proactive, hands-on approach with excellent problem-solving abilityThe confidence to make decisions and drive improvements in a busy environmentStrong understanding of maintenance, servicing and compliance requirementsExperience with plant equipment and an NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent) would be advantageous.About the CompanyThis is an excellent opportunity to join an established and successful business where you will have genuine responsibility, autonomy and the opportunity to make a lasting impact.
