Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited Perfusion Program

• Possession of a Wisconsin Perfusionist license (mandatory at the time of hiring)

Job Summary:

The Perfusionist will operate extracorporeal circulation equipment during medical procedures that necessitate artificial support or temporary replacement of circulatory or respiratory functions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct patient assessments to prepare for procedures.
• Perform perfusion and related procedures, monitoring the patient’s anticoagulation, electrolyte, acid-base, and blood-gas status, and take necessary actions to correct any imbalances.
• Set up and manage extracorporeal devices for temporary support or replacement of cardiac or pulmonary functions.
• Administer medications, anesthetics, and blood products as required during the operation of extracorporeal devices.
• Initiate and manage intra-aortic balloon pump therapy and operate autologous blood processing devices.
• Ensure availability of perfusion packs, equipment, and supplies for both scheduled and emergency surgeries.
• Perform assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of equipment while maintaining adequate supplies.
• Document assessments, activities, and procedures accurately.
• Maintain a constant state of alertness and operate safely.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Education:

• Graduation from a Perfusion Program

Experience:

• No prior experience is necessary

Physical Requirements:

• Continuous standing and walking.
• Regular lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
• Frequent reaching, gripping, and data entry using a keyboard.
• Regular use of vision for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
• Frequent auditory and verbal communication to convey information, including the ability to hear alarms and malfunctioning equipment.
• Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
• Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
• Occasional visual assessment for distance and spatial relationships, including color differentiation.
• Rarely requires the sense of smell to identify odors.
• Infrequent driving may be required.
