Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse will primarily function as a circulating nurse, although skills in scrubbing are beneficial and utilized in patient care. This role involves providing and overseeing patient care under the guidance of the Nurse Manager/Director in collaboration with the operating room team. The Registered Nurse will deliver therapeutic and administrative services essential for patient and family care, aligning with our organization’s mission. This position involves caring for patients across all five PNDS developmental categories (Children aged 1-12, Adolescents aged 13-18, Adults aged 18-64, and Seniors aged 65 and older). Nursing roles will require both scheduled and on-call commitments.

Position Details:

  • Self-scheduling options available four weeks in advance to provide predictability in your work schedule.

  • Regular rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure your input is valued regarding patient care and surgical workflow enhancements.
  • On-call duties required during select non-business hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patients prior to surgical procedures.
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding the procedure and peri-operative processes.
  • Take responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
  • Engage in surgical site verification processes, including briefings, time-outs, debriefings, and adherence to universal protocols as per hospital policy.
  • Identify and respond to patient emergencies effectively.
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while implementing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a vital member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team, which includes providers, surgeons, surgical technologists, and others.
  • Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to provide safe nursing care independently.
  • Monitor patient conditions throughout your shift, documenting any changes and the care provided thoroughly.
  • Educate patients and their families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment options, and follow-up care.
Qualifications Required:
  • Previous experience in surgery is preferred.
  • Experience in circulating and scrubbing roles is advantageous.
  • If new to the operating room, a minimum of two years of progressive acute care nursing experience is preferred.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Educational qualifications include a Registered Nurse Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree.
