Job Summary

This position is dedicated to delivering both professional and non-professional nursing care services as per physician directives. The role encompasses various Clinical Nurse responsibilities, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care needs of assigned patients, as well as executing nursing care and clinical support tasks within the defined scope of practice to fulfill the patient’s care plan.

As a professional contributor, this role may oversee the work of junior professionals or manage specific processes and programs. The majority of the time will be spent designing, implementing, or delivering processes, programs, and policies, utilizing specialized knowledge and skills typically gained through advanced education.

This experienced-level position requires independent work with general supervision. While challenges may arise, they are generally not complex, and the role may influence others by clarifying facts, policies, and practices.

Position Overview

This role requires the application of skills and knowledge essential for managing patient care from admission to discharge. It involves advocating for patients and their families while fostering a collaborative environment among all healthcare providers. Responsibilities include planning, delivering, and managing patient- and family-centered care, utilizing the nursing process and adhering to established nursing standards based on research and best practices. The aim is to provide clinical excellence that supports our patient- and family-centered care model.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Active RN Licensure in Massachusetts.
  • At least two (2) years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Department-specific certifications relevant to the type of patient care provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, promoting comfort and healing while preventing unnecessary suffering.
  • Respect patient and family dignity and privacy in all interactions, establishing mutual trust in the nurse-patient/family relationship.
  • Assess and identify expected patient outcomes based on diagnoses, data, and patient concerns.
  • Engage patients and families in their care, acknowledging their knowledge and cultural needs to enhance the healthcare experience.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that consider the patient and family’s readiness and barriers to learning.
  • Utilize evidence-based interventions and treatments tailored to specific diagnoses or issues.
  • Document all aspects of care in accordance with hospital and regulatory policies, including treatments performed and patient responses.
  • Perform procedures and treatments based on nursing knowledge and established guidelines.
  • Administer medications safely and assess patient responses, applying pharmacological knowledge and care standards.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care strategies based on patient responses and expected outcomes.
  • Coordinate comprehensive discharge plans, utilizing community resources for seamless transitions.
  • Develop educational plans for patients and families, documenting according to departmental standards.
  • Participate in patient safety, quality improvement, and process enhancement activities to improve patient outcomes.
  • Provide leadership at the bedside as a delegator, collaborator, facilitator, and communicator.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with peers to foster a professional environment.
  • Collaborate with nursing colleagues and other disciplines to implement care plans during reporting rounds.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately, considering the roles and capabilities of team members.
  • Treat all customers with courtesy and respect, acknowledging cultural differences.
  • Engage in lifelong learning to enhance professional practice and achieve career goals.
  • Incorporate new knowledge to improve nursing care practices.
  • May assume charge nurse responsibilities in collaboration with unit leadership.
  • Mentor and precept newly hired staff and nursing students.
  • Pursue advanced certification and ongoing education opportunities.
  • Explore technology and resources to integrate evidence-based practices into daily activities.
  • Support unit and organizational growth through a shared governance model.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, taking responsibility for reviewing minutes if absent.
  • Adhere to the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act and professional standards of practice.
Physical Requirements:
  • Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and assisting with patient mobility.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and potential carcinogenic substances.
  • Exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Fine manual dexterity required for patient handling.
  • Visual and auditory acuity necessary for monitoring patient care.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare teams.
  • Knowledge and application of the nursing process.
  • Ability to provide care for assigned patients in accordance with unit guidelines and hospital policies.
  • Awareness of current healthcare trends, including technology and patient safety advancements.
