Job Description
Job Title: OB/GYN Laborist

An OB/GYN Laborist is a board-certified specialist in obstetrics and gynecology who delivers inpatient care to women during labor, childbirth, and the immediate postpartum phase. Unlike conventional OB/GYN practitioners, laborists operate solely within hospital environments, providing round-the-clock coverage to guarantee prompt and secure obstetric services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct inpatient obstetric care, encompassing labor management, vaginal and cesarean deliveries, as well as postpartum support.
  • Conduct obstetric triage assessments and address obstetric emergencies effectively.
  • Collaborate with nursing personnel, midwives, and fellow physicians to ensure seamless, high-quality patient care.
  • Provide coverage for local OB/GYNs who are unavailable during their patients' labor.
  • Oversee unassigned patients or those lacking a designated obstetrician.
  • Engage in quality improvement projects and assist in formulating labor and delivery protocols.
  • Educate residents, medical students, and nursing staff as required.
Qualifications:
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a four-year residency program in OB/GYN.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Current state medical license and DEA registration.
  • Advanced training in high-risk obstetrics or maternal-fetal medicine is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient clinical skills in labor and delivery, including emergency response capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to operate independently and make critical decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Dedication to patient safety and adherence to evidence-based practices.
Work Schedule:

Shifts are typically structured (e.g., 12- or 24-hour shifts) and may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Opportunities for both full-time and part-time positions may be available.
