Fife has a strong and established engineering labour market, supported by long-term shipbuilding activity in the wider area, including the Rosyth Type 31 Frigate Programme led by Babcock.The work is expected to suit tradespeople who are comfortable working in structured production environments with high standards around safety, quality and finish.Key dutiesGrinding and dressing welded joints and fabricated componentsRemoving excess weld material, spatter, burrs and sharp edgesPreparing steel plate and structural sections before and after weldingBlending and finishing welds to the required standardUsing angle grinders, die grinders and other powered hand toolsSupporting welders, platers and fabricators during productionCarrying out visual checks on completed workIdentifying defects or areas requiring further preparationMaintaining tools and equipment in a safe working conditionFollowing site safety, quality and housekeeping proceduresExperience requiredPrevious grinding or metal-finishing experienceExperience in shipbuilding, fabrication, structural steel, defence, manufacturing or heavy engineering environmentsConfidence using angle grinders, die grinders and other powered toolsUnderstanding of weld preparation and finishing requirementsAbility to work accurately without damaging parent materialGood awareness of workplace safety and the correct use of PPEAbility to work independently and as part of a wider production teamPrevious experience working with heavy plate and structural steel would be beneficialThis is a long-term PAYE opportunity, with further details available once suitability has been confirmed.To apply, please send your CV along with details of your grinding or metal-finishing experience, current location and availability.TPBN1_UKTJ
