EMC/Tempest EngineerDuration: 6 monthsLocation: Portsmouth, 4 days on site per weekRate: £52.32 Per Hour PAYE / £70 Per Hour UmbrellaInside IR35SC Clearance required on applicationA vacancy for an Engineer focused on TEMPEST and EMC compliant ground system installation design has arisen within at the Portsmouth site. This team is responsible for the satellite communication solutions which include ground based installations of satellite control and communication equipment such as computer server systems, network infrastructure and transmission systems. The primary focus for this role at the Portsmouth site is for the design of equipment installations which are compliant with TEMPEST and EMC standards within the ground based MilSatcom domain.ResponsibilitiesThe Engineer role involves;Support the Systems team in designing a compliant equipment installation design with associated test plans and compliance evidence.This support spans all aspects of the system lifecycle from initial design through installation to customer handover.Tasks and accountabilitiesYour main tasks and responsibilities will include (from concept development, to operational deployment and operations, until retirement):Identify the stakeholder for the solution to be developed and capture their needs and expectations.Identify boundary of the solution to be developed.Elicit and validate requirements for TEMPEST and EMC whilst considering the complete system lifecycle.Design and define possible architectures, in collaboration with IS/IT specialists, considering the functions and other requirements (constraints).Produce EMC/TEMPEST test plansLead the engagement with test houses to fully define the approachLead modelling using appropriate systems engineering techniques.Lead analysis (e.g., performance).Perform trade-off analysis in order to select the best solution fulfilling the requirements.Validate architecture.Define and manage interface requirements.Lead verification of the implementation and its interfaces.Lead operational and in-service evaluation.Lead impact analysis of any design change request during the entire product lifecycleSkill SetEssentialWe are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:Be able to address the following aspects of TEMPEST/EMC compliant equipment installation:Familiarity with TEMPEST standards – preferableKnowledge of TEMPEST test specifications, test procedures, test setups, test data - preferableFamiliarity with EMC standards – preferableKnowledge of EMC test specifications, test procedures, test setups, test data - preferableCustomer EMC requirements analysisSystem level EMC design, development and solutionsEMC Equipment selectionPractical experience of installation of electrical equipment, including rack installation and compliant cabling practices - essentialUnderstanding of the effects of electrical equipment (and cabling) interference, and methods for mitigating interference - essentialElectrical safety certificationPrevious experience of generating test plans for sign off of electrical equipment installation, preferably with TEMPEST and/or EMC experienceVerification, Validation & integrationTransition to OperationAbility to safeguard security classified and/or export-controlled data.DesirablePreferred Industry KnowledgeKnowledge in the following areas is preferred but not essential:Military ground site installations and associated standardsMilitary communications systemsPreferred Academic Qualifications:Educated to at least Degree Level or equivalent in a recognised engineering discipline as recognised by the IET.The candidate should preferably hold a Chartered Engineer status and a member of the IET or other equivalent body.TPBN1_UKTJ
