Highways Operative

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Highways Operative to join our team based in Gateshead. You'll play a key role in maintaining and improving the local highway network, ensuring roads, footpaths, and public spaces remain safe and accessible.This is a physically demanding role working outdoors in all weather conditions.The Company: Competitive salary with overtime opportunities.Paid holidays.Training and career development.PPE and equipment provided.Supportive working environment with opportunities for self improvement.Key Responsibilities Carry out highway maintenance and repair works.Install, repair, and maintain road signs, barriers, kerbs, and street furniture.Undertake pothole repairs, patching, drainage, and footway maintenance.Set up and remove traffic management in line with safety procedures.Operate hand tools, power tools, and plant equipment where authorised.Complete daily safety checks and maintain accurate work records.Follow health and safety procedures and wear the required PPE at all times.Work effectively as part of a team to deliver projects on time and to a high standard.Essential Requirements:Full UK driving licence (HGV preferred).Previous experience in highways, construction, utilities, groundworks, or a similar outdoor role.Good understanding of health and safety practices.Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.Abrasive wheels qualificationRide on RollerDesirable:NRSWA Street Works qualification.CSCS Card.Lantra qualifications.Traffic Management experience.Experience operating plant and machinery.TPBN1_UKTJ
