Job Title: Senior Embedded Software EngineerLocation: Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Hybrid (3/2)Salary: £60-70K + bonusWe're looking for an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead firmware development and drive delivery of embedded products . You'll manage key projects , mentor engineers, and work closely with architecture and leadership teams to shape how products are built for the future.About the RoleYou'll own project delivery across firmware development - from requirements and design through production. This is a technical leadership position where you'll drive innovation, mentor engineers, and contribute to our product strategy.Your day-to-day:Lead firmware development projects across multiple platforms and device typesWork with our architecture team on technical design decisions and implementationManage project delivery and technical timelines in collaboration with the engineering managerMentor and develop junior engineers, helping them grow technicallyCollaborate with hardware, product, and leadership teamsResearch emerging technologies and evaluate new approaches for our productsDrive improvements in our development practices – version control, testing, CI/CDSupport product certification, EMC testing and regulatory complianceYou'll be someone teams rely on for technical depth and delivery – raising the bar for embedded systems excellence.What We're Looking ForCore requirements:Demonstrable experience in embedded systems firmware development with proven technical leadershipStrong and substantial expertise in Embedded C/C++Hands-on experience with RTOS-based development (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or equivalent)Microcontroller/SoC experience (ARM Cortex M, ESP32 or similar)Wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth, WiFi, LoRa or others)Full product lifecycle experience – from requirements through productionBEng/BSc in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or equivalentProven ability to lead and mentor engineering teamsComfortable managing multiple projects and priorities effectivelyGit and collaborative development workflowsDetail-oriented with genuine commitment to code quality and testingNice-to-have:PCB design (Altium) or hardware design experienceMedical device or safety-critical systems backgroundHands-on electronics – soldering, breadboarding, circuit designLinux systems and embedded Linux developmentPython or scripting for test automationIoT ecosystems and sensor networksMSc/MEng qualificationPublished technical work or open-source contributionsWhy This RoleYou'll work with a team that values engineering excellence .
