Controls EngineerThe company is a global leader in automated battery assembly and manufacturing equipment. Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to creating a workplace where individuals can thrive, grow, and make a real impact.The RoleAs a Controls Engineer you will be responsible for the development, programming, and support of control systems for special-purpose automated machinery supplied to the worldwide lead-acid battery industry. You will play a key role in delivering robust, safe, and high-performance automation solutions, supporting new machine builds, prototype development, and existing equipment in the field.This role offers the opportunity to work on complex automation projects, develop advanced controls expertise, and support global customers as part of a collaborative engineering team.Key ResponsibilitiesCarry out PLC, HMI, and motion control programming and modification workConfigure and integrate software and hardware for networked control systems with distributed I/OProgram and integrate vision systems for inspection and measurement, using Cognex or similar platformsProvide control system support for prototype machines, new builds, and existing equipment in the fieldEnsure machine safety compliance with relevant international standards and best practicesPrepare control system documentation to support machine manufacture, testing, and customer handoverProvide customer support, including on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault finding as requiredIdentify opportunities to improve processes, productivity, and qualityActively participate in product development and continuous improvement initiativesDevelop effective working relationships with internal teams, customers, and suppliersFollow all workplace management rules and departmental procedures consistentlyAct with integrity, professionalism, and respect at all timesLive the values of the business in everything you doEnsure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and ethical standardsYou may also be required to undertake additional tasks or duties from time to time that are reasonably within your capabilities.Skills, Knowledge & ExperienceQualified to HNC / HND level or equivalent in a software, controls, or automation-related disciplineProven experience in PLC, HMI, and motion control programmingExperience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including Logix, Safety PLCs, Kinetix motion control, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View MEExperience with Siemens control systems and TIA Portal advantageousKnowledge of robotic applications preferred (Yaskawa desirable)Experience with vision systems for inspection and measurement advantageousStrong understanding of control system architecture and automation principlesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsSelf-motivated, enthusiastic, and confident communicating at all levelsPositive, adaptable approach with the ability to work in culturally diverse environmentsStrong problem-solving skills with a supportive, solution-focused mindsetWillingness and ability to travel internationally for customer support and commissioningFull passport and eligibility for international travelTypical travel may involve 45 trips per year, each approximately 23 weeks in duration, depending on project requirements.Culture & BenefitsWe value our people and are committed to supporting their wellbeing and development.
