Consultant Psychiatrist (Female PD)

\n Overview\n

We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Beckton and provide senior medical cover to 15 inpatients on Upping Ward, our Intensive Support Service for women with a diagnosis of personality disorder and complex mental health needs.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance with GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.

\n

In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and a first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists and an occupational therapist.

You will have the opportunity to progress to Medical Director Level through our management schemes.

Main duties\n

Cygnet Hospital Beckton has four different specialist wards including PICU, acute admissions and personality disorder services. We accept emergency and planned, pre-assessed admissions. Our aim is to support individual service user recovery and integration back into the community as quickly as possible. We have a multidisciplinary team of specialists and offer a very broad range of therapies.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and have overall medical responsibility of patient treatment plans, whilst liaising closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, etc.).

The post holder will be expected to act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.

Job responsibilities\n

Lead on the provision of high quality care to the service users admitted to Upping Ward.

\n

Act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.

\n

Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.

\n

Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations of service users.

\n

Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis and treatment.

\n

Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits.

\n

Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management and embed clinical governance within the service.

\n

Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managers hearings and attend hearings.

\n

Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required.

\n

Maintain good patient records and ensure regular communications with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.

\n

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, directors and other concerned bodies; maintain appropriate reports.

\n

Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to the professional standards for CPD as set out by the GMC, the Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

\n

Contribute to the Second On-call Rota in line with regional needs.

Requirements\n

Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.

\n

Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status.

\n

Experience and knowledge in Learning Disabilities and mental health diagnosis.

\n

Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.

\n

A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess and treat patients and write clear, comprehensive medical notes.

\n

Committed to continued professional development and able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

\n

A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.

\n
