You will provide high-quality, pragmatic legal advice to colleagues across academic schools and professional services, supporting effective decision-making while managing legal risk.Acting as a key contact within the Legal Services team, you will independently handle a wide range of matters, escalating more complex or high-risk issues where appropriate.Key responsibilities will include :Provide expert legal advice across a broad range of areas, including commercial, corporate, and governance mattersDraft, review and negotiate a wide variety of contracts and agreements, including:Support the University in legal compliance and risk management, delivering clear, practical guidanceAdvise on when to engage external legal counsel and manage those relationships effectivelyPartnership and collaboration agreements, Joint ventures and franchise arrangements, International and apprenticeship-related agreementsWe are looking for a confident, collaborative legal professional who can provide practical, solution-focused advice in a complex and fast-paced environment, who has the following:Qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with a proven track record of post-qualification experienceStrong expertise in contract and commercial lawProven ability to build relationships and influence at all levelsHighly organised, with attention to detailCommitment to continuous professional developmentExperience working in the Higher Education or public sector would be an advantageExperience in dealing with complaints and litigation / dispute resolution would also be an advantageWhats in it for you?Gain exposure to a wide range of complex and interesting legal mattersExcellent pension schemeAn impressive 32 days leave - plus bank holidays, additional time off at Christmas and the opportunity to buy even more!Hybrid workingProfessional development - we offer a comprehensive package of training and development opportunities to help you achieve your full potentialWellbeing support - all our people are important to us and we have services and facilities dedicated to your mental and physical health, ranging from an Employee Assistance Programme and counselling, to sports and fitness facilities including discounted gym membershipsUoS are committed to safer recruitment practices.
