Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and dependable self-employed, Junior Gardener to join the gardening team on a private estate. Working under the supervision of the Head Gardener, you will assist in maintaining the estate's formal gardens, lawns, borders, woodland areas, kitchen garden, and other landscaped grounds to an exceptional standard. This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for horticulture who is keen to develop their skills within a prestigious private estate environment.

The day-to-day responsibilities will focus on the general maintenance and presentation of the gardens and grounds. Duties will include mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, leaf clearance, weeding, watering, seasonal tidying, and ensuring all areas are kept neat, healthy, and well presented. The successful candidate will also assist the Head Gardener with more skilled horticultural tasks such as planting, pruning, propagation, training plants, and general plant care.

This part-time, self-employed position is for three days per week, for a three-month period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance of gardens, lawns, borders, hedges, and woodland areas.

  • Plant, weed, water, mulch, and cultivate flower beds, shrubs, trees, and herbaceous borders.
  • \n
  • Support the care and maintenance of the kitchen garden, including fruit, vegetables, and herbs.
  • \n
  • Mow, edge, scarify, and feed lawns to maintain a high-quality finish.
  • \n
  • Prune shrubs, climbers, roses, and small trees under the guidance of senior staff.
  • \n
  • Operate and maintain gardening tools, machinery, and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • \n
  • Assist with irrigation, composting, and soil improvement programmes.
  • \n
  • Keep pathways, terraces, drives, and outdoor areas clean, tidy, and free from debris.
  • \n
  • Maintain high standards of presentation, discretion, and professionalism when working around the estate and its residents.

  • Comply with all health and safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
