\n CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist & Clinical and Safeguarding Lead\n

We are seeking an experienced full‑time CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Bury Forestwood and provide senior medical cover on Mulberry ward, a 12‑bedded CAMHS Intensive Support service for young people who require inpatient care within a robust and therapeutic setting.

As the Responsible Clinician at Mulberry Ward, you will also serve as the CAMHS Clinical & Safeguarding Lead for the Cygnet Group.

The service delivers tailored treatment packages in a safe, age‑appropriate environment to reduce the risk of harm to self and others by improving their mental health. Your expertise will drive life‑changing treatment, supported by a Specialty Doctor and a first‑class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists and occupational therapists.

Main duties and responsibilities\n
    \n
  • Lead on the provision of high quality care to the service users admitted to Mulberry Ward.
  • \n
  • Act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors and other staff.
  • \n
  • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • \n
  • Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users.
  • \n
  • Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment.
  • \n
  • Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews & clinical audits.
  • \n
  • Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance within the service.
  • \n
  • Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers hearings & attend hearings.
  • \n
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required.
  • \n
  • Maintain good patient records.
  • \n
  • Ensure and maintain regular communications with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
  • \n
  • Communicate effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors, and any other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriate reports.
  • \n
  • Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to the professional standards for CPD as set out by the GMC, the Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

  • Contribute to Telephone On call rota (dependent on the needs of the region).

Qualifications & experience\n
    \n
  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
  • \n
  • Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR/Portfolio Pathway), Section 12 and AC Status.
  • \n
  • Experienced & knowledgeable in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • \n
  • Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
  • \n
  • A first‑rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes.
  • \n
  • Committed to continued professional development.
  • \n
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • \n
  • Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.

Requirements\n

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check; an offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check\n

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary\n

£180,000 per year (DOE) + £16,000 per annum for CAMHS Clinical & Safeguarding Lead.
