Unit Manager (Licensed Practical Nurse/LPN)

Position Overview

The LPN Unit Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing, executing, coordinating, and managing patient care through direct interactions with patients, their families, nursing personnel, and other stakeholders within the designated unit, all while adhering to relevant laws, regulations, and organizational standards.

Educational Background, Experience, and Licensing Criteria

• Completion of an accredited LPN program
• Active licensure/registration in the relevant state, with a requirement to maintain a valid Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) license in good standing throughout the duration of employment.
• Preferred: At least one (1) year of experience in geriatric nursing
• CPR certification required upon hiring or to be obtained during orientation, with the necessity to keep it current throughout employment.

• Possess advanced knowledge in the nursing field
• Ability to make independent decisions when necessary
• Familiarity with practices, procedures, and the legal framework governing operations in a post-acute care setting
• Implement and interpret departmental programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
• Demonstrate proficiency in all competency areas, including but not limited to patient rights, safety, and sanitation
• Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, vendors, and others
• Ensure confidentiality of all proprietary and sensitive information
• Comprehend and adhere to organizational policies, including those related to harassment and compliance
• Exhibit integrity and professionalism by following the organization’s Code of Conduct and completing mandatory compliance training

Key Responsibilities

• Effectively oversee the daily operations of unit nurses and CNAs, providing leadership on the floor
• Document patient information accurately, appropriately, and in a timely manner
• Manage and coordinate patient care and services through interpersonal interactions, enabling patients to achieve or maintain optimal physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being
• Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by a physician with accuracy
• Take a leadership role in responding to emergency situations concerning patient and staff safety
• Collaborate with RNs to coordinate patient care plans and services
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive demeanor towards patients
• Assist in the safe evacuation of patients when necessary
• Demonstrate reliable and consistent attendance
• Utilize reasoning skills and sound judgment in various situations
• Communicate effectively and work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
• Engage in physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving intermittently throughout the workday
• Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language
