Seeking a COOK AIDE
General Summary: Under the supervision of the Center Supervisor, the Cook Aide is responsible for assisting the Cook in preparing healthy meals and snacks for the Head Start children and covering for the Cook in their absence, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adheres to guidelines set in Muscogee (Creek) Nation Head Start Preschool,
Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing (DHS) Policies and Procedures, and Federal and State guidelines as related to Head Start Preschool.
- Responsible for submitting a daily/weekly/monthly cleaning checklist to the Center Supervisor.
- Must wear a hair and facial covering of some type (cap or hairnet) when in the kitchen, cooking, or serving food; wear an apron. Fingernails need to be kept short and clean.
- Must obtain ServSafe Food Certification, CPR/AED, and First Aid card, and any other required training as scheduled by the program.
- Must ensure that all leftovers are disposed of per policy.
- Must document and report suspected child abuse, neglect, etc. As mandated by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Head Start Preschool Policies, Tribal, State, and Federal Laws.
- Ensure appropriate guidelines for estimating amounts of food to prepare meals and serve correct component amounts.
- Ensure meals are served at scheduled meal times and monitor and interact with the children during meal service.
- Assists in the delivery of meals to the classroom ready for family-style meals, ensuring that all meals are served on time and according to schedule.
- Assists with preparing and packing food for children's field trips.
- Manage time effectively, coordinate with other Head Start personnel, and contribute to a collaborative team atmosphere.
- Must maintain records of food temperatures to ensure food safety.
- Maintain an inventory of food, paper, and cleaning supplies, and assist with the necessary documentation to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local sanitation policies and procedures.
- Fostering a positive mealtime experience for children, encouraging them to accept and enjoy healthy foods.
- Assist with required documentation related to food service.
- Assist with monthly classroom experiences and nutrition activities.
- Assures all food-related items are properly stored, dated, and rotated, serves food appropriately, and keeps updated and accurate menu and inventory.
- Attend workshops and training to gain knowledge of the Head Start Preschool Program.
- Must be willing to attend out-of-town and/or overnight training upon request.
- Upon hire, must have a physical and an initial TB skin test. Physicals will be required annually and submitted to the Administration Office each school year.
- Must obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) within the first six (6) months of employment.
- This position furloughs through the summer break.
Minimum Requirements:
Education High School diploma or GED
Experience N/A
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
Must have a valid Oklahoma drivers license.
Preferred Requirements:
Education Associate Degree in Culinary and Food Management
Experience Experience in the preparation of meals and knowledge of balanced meals and nutrition.
