Instead, you'll focus on leadership, coaching, architecture, delivery and helping your team produce exceptional software.Whilst you won't be writing production code, you'll bring the technical credibility to support architectural discussions, encourage innovation and guide engineers as they explore new technologies. You'll understand how modern software engineering practicesincluding AI-assisted development, rapid prototyping and technical experimentationcan accelerate innovation whilst maintaining high engineering standards.The RoleYou'll lead a team of approximately six Software Engineers, working closely with Product Managers, Architects and Technical Leadership to ensure projects are delivered successfully whilst maintaining exceptional engineering standards.This is a hybrid position based near London Bridge , with regular collaboration in the office. It is not a fully remote role.You'll help create an environment where engineers are empowered to solve complex problems, collaborate effectively and continually improve both the products they build and the way they work.Key ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor and develop a team of approximately six Software Engineers.Create an environment where engineers can perform at their best and continue to develop their technical capabilities.Coach and support engineers through regular one-to-one meetings, mentoring and career development.Work closely with Product Managers, Architects and Technical Leadership to establish priorities and deliver successful outcomes.Provide technical guidance and architectural oversight without being responsible for day-to-day software development.Champion modern software engineering practices, encouraging teams to leverage AI-assisted development tools, rapid prototyping and experimentation where they add value.Foster a culture of innovation by supporting engineers in evaluating emerging technologies and validating ideas through proof-of-concepts and technical experimentation.Drive continuous improvement across engineering practices, software quality and delivery.Champion collaboration, pair programming, knowledge sharing and continuous learning across the engineering function.Support recruitment, onboarding and the continued growth of the engineering team.Remove blockers, encourage ownership and create an environment where engineers can do their best work.About YouYou'll ideally have:Previous experience as a Software Engineer before moving into engineering leadership.Experience leading and developing software engineering teams.Strong understanding of software architecture, engineering principles and modern development practices.Excellent coaching, mentoring and people leadership skills.Experience supporting engineers through performance management and career development.Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.An appreciation of modern software engineering approaches, including AI-assisted development, rapid prototyping and iterative product development.The ability to balance innovation and experimentation with sound engineering judgement, scalability and long-term maintainability.Comfortable supporting engineers working across multiple programming languages, frameworks and modern development tools rather than a single technology stack.A collaborative leadership style with a genuine passion for building high-performing engineering teams.Experience working within complex, highly regulated or secure technology environments would be advantageous but is by no means essential.Why Join?This organisation genuinely invests in its engineering teams and has built a collaborative culture where engineers are trusted to contribute ideas, challenge assumptions and influence technical direction.Technology evolves quickly, and so do they.
