The role focuses on developing high-quality engineering solutions, creating detailed models and drawings, supporting prototype development and working closely with manufacturing and project teams to deliver successful mechanical productsWorking within a collaborative engineering environment, the Design Engineer will play a key role in delivering complex mechanical systems across automotive and specialist engineering applications.HSB Technical's client is an established and well-regarded engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of special purpose machinery and equipment.Duties and responsibilities of the Design Engineer - Mechanical:Apply existing knowledge and experience to produce innovative mechanical designsCreate detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings to company standardsDesign mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to productionDesign sheet metal, machined, fabricated and cast componentsApply practical knowledge of automotive systems and mechanical engineering principlesVisualise complex assemblies using a systems engineering approachSelect suitable materials and manufacturing processesCarry out hand calculations and support FEA/CAE assessments where appropriateAssess prototypes to ensure correct fit, function and performanceRevise existing designs to meet changing project requirementsMaintain accurate drawing records and PDM documentationLiaise with suppliers to source suitable componentsParticipate in design reviews and implement engineering improvementsProduce technical reports and maintain project documentationSupport vehicle testing and data logging activities where requiredWork independently whilst collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver projects on timeSome of the technologies and software you may be working with include:SolidWorks3D CADPDM (Product Data Management)ANSYSFEA (Finite Element Analysis)Microsoft OfficeEngineering Drawing StandardsVehicle Data Logging EquipmentQualifications and requirements for the Design Engineer - Mechanical:HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related disciplineProven experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer positionStrong 3D CAD modelling and engineering drawing experienceExperience designing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to manufacturePractical knowledge of automotive systems and mechanical engineering principlesExperience with sheet metal, machined parts, fabrications and cast componentsUnderstanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture (DFM)Strong communication skills with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teamsGood report writing, documentation and organisational skillsComputer literate with the ability to adapt to new engineering softwareAbility to work on your own initiative and deliver against project timescalesStrong problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach to engineering designDesirable ExperienceSolidWorks expertiseANSYS / FEA analysisStructural analysisPDM drawing controlVehicle testing and data loggingSpecial Purpose MachineryAutomotive EngineeringDefence vehicle designManufacturing or production environment experienceContinuous Professional Development (CPD)BenefitsOpportunity to work on innovative mechanical engineering projectsExposure to complex automotive and specialist engineering applicationsCollaborative engineering and design environmentOngoing training and professional developmentCareer progression opportunitiesWork from concept through to production on technically challenging projectsTPBN1_UKTJ
