The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Estates to join a large, complex NHS Trust on a 2-year fixed-term contract.

Reporting into the senior Estates leadership team, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across a diverse healthcare estate, ensuring the delivery of safe, compliant, and efficient Estates services while supporting the organisation's wider transformation and sustainability objectives.

This is a high-profile leadership role offering the chance to influence estates strategy, lead major infrastructure and operational improvement programmes, and manage significant budgets, contracts, and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of Estates Operational Services across multiple sites.
\n
• Ensure full statutory compliance across all building engineering systems and infrastructure.
\n
• Manage and develop Estates teams, specialist services, and external contractors.
\n
• Oversee Hard FM service delivery, asset management, maintenance programmes, and lifecycle planning.
\n
• Lead compliance across key areas including:
\n
• Mechanical & Electrical Services
\n
• Fire Safety
\n
• Water Safety & Legionella
\n
• Medical Gases
\n
• Asbestos
\n
• Health & Safety
\n
• Ventilation and Critical Engineering Systems
\n
• Manage significant operational and capital budgets.
\n
• Drive service improvement, modernisation, and efficiency programmes.
\n
• Support the delivery of sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives.
\n
• Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on technical Estates matters.
\n

Requirements

\n
• Significant senior-level Estates leadership experience within healthcare, public sector, higher education, or other complex operational environments.
\n
• Strong technical knowledge of engineering services, statutory compliance, and Estates governance.
\n
• Experience managing large Estates budgets and contracted service providers.
\n
• Proven leadership of multidisciplinary Estates and Engineering teams.
\n
• Experience developing long-term asset management and maintenance strategies.
\n
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence at executive level.
\n
