Quality Engineer (SFIA 5)
\nContract Duration: 6 months
\nRate: £460 per day Inside IR35
\nLocation: At least 2x per month in Telford

\nWe are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join the CoreMod Programme, a major transformation initiative focused on modernising HMRC's tax administration systems. You will work within agile Scrum teams of 4-8 engineers, delivering high-quality solutions through two-week sprint cycles across a diverse and modern technology landscape.
\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a quality-focused engineer who is passionate about automation, continuous improvement, and embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
\n- \n
- Design, build and implement automated testing solutions from the ground up. \n
- Develop and execute test strategies using TDD, BDD and risk-based testing approaches. \n
- Champion shift-left testing practices and support CI/CD pipeline integration. \n
- Coach and mentor development teams on Quality Engineering best practices. \n
- Perform testing across all levels, including: \n
- Unit Testing \n
- System Testing \n
- Integration Testing \n
- Non-Functional Testing \n
- Analyse business requirements and translate them into effective test approaches. \n
- Create, manage and maintain test data and testing artefacts. \n
- Collaborate closely with developers through pair programming and agile delivery practices. \n
- Support defect analysis, root cause investigation and quality improvement initiatives. \n

Essential Technical Capabilities
\nCandidates must be able to demonstrate:
\n- \n
- Ability to read, understand and interpret Java unit tests (e.g. JUnit) written by developers to support test analysis and defect investigation. \n
- Experience designing and developing automated end-to-end and system tests using Playwright with Java. \n
- Strong capability in developing and maintaining automated test frameworks and scripts in Java across: \n
- UI Testing \n

- System-Level Testing \n

Required Skills & Experience

- Proven experience in Quality Engineering and software testing. \n
- Strong understanding of automated testing principles and frameworks. \n
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines. \n
- Proficiency with Git and GitLab. \n
- Knowledge of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies. \n
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. \n
- Experience coaching and mentoring team members. \n
- Quality-focused mindset with a continuous improvement approach. \n
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional delivery teams. \n
