CAD Design Engineer / Senior Design Engineer

Planet Recruitment are working with an established and growing engineering business who are looking to recruit an experienced CAD Design Engineer / Senior CAD Designer to join their Design team based in Reading.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a company delivering high-quality engineering solutions across a diverse range of projects. You'll play a key role in the design and delivery of technically challenging projects, working from initial concept through to installation and project completion.

The successful candidate will work closely with project, commercial, sales and operational teams to produce practical, compliant and cost-effective design solutions. Senior candidates will also have the opportunity to mentor junior designers and help drive continuous improvement across the department.

• Produce accurate 2D and 3D technical drawings using AutoCAD, Revit or similar CAD software.
\n
• Design engineered systems in accordance with client specifications, British Standards and industry regulations.
\n
• Prepare technical calculations, layouts, system schematics and supporting design documentation.
\n
• Produce technical submissions, build budgets and procurement documentation.
\n
• Create and issue as-built drawings, O&M manuals and project handover documentation.
\n
• Coordinate design activities across multiple projects, ensuring deadlines are achieved.
\n
• Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and project delivery.
\n
• Work closely with Sales and Estimating teams to support tenders and client proposals.
\n
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure the latest products and technologies are incorporated into designs.
\n
• Attend client meetings and provide professional technical support where required.
\n
• Maintain accurate design records and document control throughout the project lifecycle.
\n
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute towards design best practice.
\n
• Mentor junior designers where appropriate.
\n

To be successful in this role you will have:

\n
• Previous experience as a CAD Design Engineer, Building Services Designer, Fire Systems Designer or similar.
\n
• Strong AutoCAD and/or Revit experience.
\n
• Experience producing detailed technical drawings and engineering documentation.
\n
• Knowledge of relevant British Standards such as BS5839, BS5266, BS7671 or similar.
\n
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
\n
• The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
\n
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem solving.
\n
• Experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
\n

• HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
\n
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
\n
• Full UK Driving Licence.
\n
• Right to work in the UK.
\n

• FIA Units or equivalent industry qualifications.
\n
• IOSH Working Safely or similar Health & Safety qualification.
\n
• Previous experience mentoring or leading junior designers.
\n
