Interim Head of Finance | FCA-Regulated FinTech | 6 Month
Job Description
Interim Head of Finance | FCA-Regulated FinTech | London / Hybrid
\n\nThe Client
\n\nHarmonic is delighted to be partnering with a growing FinTech scale-up in the financial services space. Backed by an experienced leadership team and now trading at meaningful scale, the business is moving from its traditional finance roots toward a more product-led culture, with a finance-literate CEO driving a new phase of operational maturity. It operates in a regulated environment and is at an interesting inflection point.
\n\nThe Role
\n\nReporting into the COO (with a dotted line into the CEO), the Interim Head of Finance will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function through a period of leadership transition. This is a hands-on role first and foremost: the priority is to steady the function, keep financial control, reporting and planning running cleanly, and get up to speed quickly with a complex fee model. Alongside the operational core, you will act as the second-line owner for client money oversight and partner with the executive team on budgeting, forecasting and commercial decisions. Initially an interim appointment, there's the potential to be extended or transfer to permanent should the fit be right.
\n\nKey Responsibilities
\n\n- \n
- Own the monthly management accounts, financial control framework and balance sheet integrity, keeping the function audit-ready throughout the transition. \n
- Oversee tax, VAT and regulatory reporting, plus payroll oversight (outsourced) and year-end audit. \n
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and cashflow monitoring, and produce clear financial insight for the executive team. \n
- Reviewing and challenging first-line controls alongside Risk and Compliance. \n
- Manage and support one part-qualified management accountant, steadying the team through the FD transition. \n
- Partner with the executive team on budgeting, capex and commercial decisions. \n
Essential Experience
\n\n- \n
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA). \n
- Strong technical accounting and financial control background, gained in a startup or scale-up environment. \n
- Genuinely hands-on operator who can get feet under the table quickly and steady a small team. \n
- High EQ and strong stakeholder management; a relationship-builder, not just a technician. \n
- Comfortable owning management accounts, reporting and planning end-to-end. \n
Desirable Experience
\n\n- \n
- Experience within fintech, banking, wealth management or financial services. \n
- Exposure to FCA-regulated businesses and client money or client assets governance. \n
- Experience of complex or B2B2C fee structures. \n
- Experience supporting scaling businesses and improving finance processes. \n
Package
\n\nDay Rate: £550-650 per day (candidate rate, dependent on experience)
\nLocation: London, hybrid (3 days in office, Tuesday to Thursday)
\nDuration: Full-time interim, scope to extend or convert
\nStart Date: Early-to-mid September 2026, to allow handover with the outgoing FD
