Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Housing Paralegal to join the Legal Services team at a busy local authority based in London. This is an excellent role for a motivated legal professional looking to gain exposure to a busy and varied housing litigation practice within a local authority setting.

The successful candidate will join a team of four paralegals within a highly active Housing Litigation Team and play a key role in supporting efforts to reduce a significant backlog of rent arrears and warrant application cases.

\n

Initially, the successful housing paralegal will be responsible for managing their own caseload of rent arrears and warrant application matters, helping the team to address existing backlogs while ensuring case management systems and tracking spreadsheets are accurately maintained and updated.

As the backlog reduces, you will provide wider support to lawyers handling a broad range of housing litigation matters, including:

  • Housing disrepair claims
  • \n
  • Tenancy enforcement matters
  • \n
  • Unauthorised occupant cases
  • \n
  • Anti-social behaviour and nuisance cases
  • \n
  • General housing litigation support
  • \n
\n

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing your own caseload of housing-related matters
  • \n
  • Maintaining and updating case-tracking spreadsheets and management systems
  • \n
  • Issuing court proceedings
  • \n
  • Assisting with court bundles and disclosure exercises
  • \n
  • Drafting straightforward correspondence and legal documents
  • \n
  • Booking counsel and managing related administration
  • \n
  • Processing invoices and supporting the wider legal team
  • \n
  • Providing administrative and paralegal support to fee earners across the department
  • \n
\n

Requirements

\n

  • Previous experience in housing law, litigation, or local government legal services is highly desirable
  • \n
  • Ability to manage a caseload with minimal supervision
  • \n
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • \n
  • Excellent attention to detail and case management abilities
  • \n
  • Experience assisting with court proceedings and litigation processes would be advantageous
  • \n
  • CILEX qualification preferred, although candidates with relevant experience will also be considered
  • \n

The role is paying £20.55 per hour PAYE or £26.77 per hour Umbrella/Limited

\n
