Fellowship Opportunity in Advanced Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction

Our organization is excited to announce an opening for a fellowship in Advanced Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction. This one-year surgical program offers extensive hands-on experience, with the possibility of extending to two years based on the fellow's career goals and research interests. We highly encourage participation in mission electives.

Program Overview

Currently, our team includes:

• 8 full-time fellowship-trained Head & Neck surgical oncologists
• 5 specialists performing microvascular reconstructions
• 2 additional oncologic surgeons at our affiliated VA facility
• 2 endoscopic skull base surgeons
• 3 facial plastic/reconstructive surgeons
• 3 laryngologists

This diverse team enhances the fellow's learning experience. The fellow will engage in advanced cases, including:

• Major head and neck ablative surgeries
• Microvascular reconstructions
• TOLMS/TORS procedures
• Endoscopic skull base surgeries
• Open and craniofacial surgeries
• Advanced trauma cases
• Complex skin cancer reconstructions

A well-rounded experience in both ablative and reconstructive surgery is essential, with the fellow's preferences influencing the specific case mix. Additionally, the fellowship encompasses thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, including minimally invasive techniques, re-operative procedures, and surgeries for non-localizing diseases.

Fellow Responsibilities

The fellow will collaborate with faculty at our institution, selecting cases with minimal oversight to foster an independent and balanced learning environment. Responsibilities include:

• Intraoperative teaching of residents
• Limited research involvement
• Opportunities to assist at the VA or county hospital for specific cases, if desired

This fellowship does not involve call or clinic duties, focusing solely on surgical experience. A California Medical License is a prerequisite.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting base salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $104,000, adjusted according to years of experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity incentives and is subject to departmental compensation policies. Detailed discussions regarding compensation will occur during the recruitment process.
