Job Opportunity: Infectious Disease Physician

Our organization is excited to announce a full-time position for a Board Certified or Board Eligible Infectious Disease physician. This role is part of a growing physician group practice at our facility in Pontiac, Michigan.

The chosen candidate will collaborate closely with our current solo Infectious Disease physician, establishing a partnership that aims to expand into a larger practice in the future. Our existing group at another location works in tandem with the physician at this site, ensuring a supportive network.

This role primarily focuses on inpatient care, with an additional ambulatory component that includes one half-day clinic each week. The practice benefits from the support of a dedicated ID/antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist and a comprehensive pharmacy department. We utilize Epic EMR for our documentation needs.

Our facility, a 486-bed community teaching hospital and Level II Trauma Center, serves Oakland County and the surrounding areas of southeast Michigan. The diverse patient population reflects the rich socioeconomic and cultural variety of the greater Detroit metropolitan area, offering a wide range of clinically rewarding cases that align with the full spectrum of infectious disease practice.

This position also includes opportunities for teaching Internal Medicine residents and medical students, with the potential for an academic appointment.

Opportunity Details

• Schedule: Monday-Friday

• Team Size: Currently 1 physician; this hire will establish the foundational two-physician partnership
• Teaching Opportunities: Yes, with Internal Medicine residents and medical students
• Call: 1-in-2 weekends and shared weekday holidays, equally divided between the two physicians. Candidates should be prepared for this commitment as the program develops.

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Infectious Disease; certification must be obtained within the timeframe set by the relevant specialty board
• Active Michigan medical license or the ability to secure one prior to starting
• DEA license

Duties & Responsibilities

A typical day may involve:

• Providing direct inpatient infectious disease consultations across medical and surgical services
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including pharmacy, nursing, and surgical specialties
• Teaching and mentoring Internal Medicine residents and medical students
• Documenting patient information in Epic EMR
• Participating in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
• Contributing to the development of a hospital-employed Infectious Disease program
