Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Equipment Operator II to support roadway maintenance and transportation infrastructure operations. This position is responsible for operating a variety of light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment while performing roadway maintenance, traffic control, preventive maintenance, and emergency response activities. The ideal candidate will have experience operating construction or highway maintenance equipment, possess a valid CDL, and be comfortable working outdoors in a safety-sensitive environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment including backhoes, dump trucks, loaders, motor graders, tractors, bush hogs, and similar equipment.

  • Perform routine roadway maintenance and repair activities.

  • Assist with preventive maintenance of assigned equipment.

  • Set up work zones, traffic control devices, and flag traffic safely.

  • Perform pothole repairs, ditch cleaning, brush cutting, debris removal, and roadway cleanup.

  • Conduct equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.

  • Follow all safety procedures while working around active highways and traffic.

  • Respond to emergency roadway maintenance and incident response activities as required.

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance activities.

  • Perform manual labor as needed to support roadway maintenance operations.

  • Complete additional duties assigned by supervisors.


Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.

  • Current DOT Medical Card.

  • Ability to obtain Flagging Certification within 60 days of employment.

  • Experience operating light, medium, and heavy construction or highway maintenance equipment.

  • Knowledge of roadway maintenance practices and equipment.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with highway, roadway, or transportation maintenance.

  • Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.

  • Familiarity with traffic control procedures and work zone safety.

  • Experience working in emergency response or public infrastructure environments.


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform manual labor throughout the workday.

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to safely work near active roadways and heavy equipment.


Work Environment
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

  • 24/7 operational environment requiring flexible scheduling.

  • Weekend, holiday, overtime, and emergency response work may be required.

  • Fast-paced, safety-focused work environment supporting critical transportation infrastructure.
