About the Movement Disorders ProgramOur organization’s Movement Disorders program stands as a clinical frontrunner in the region. Recognized as the first Parkinson's Foundation Center of Excellence in South Carolina, we provide the only all-encompassing movement disorders program in the state, featuring an interdisciplinary care approach, opportunities for patients to engage in clinical trials, and various support and educational initiatives.
Overview of the Neurology Movement Disorder Team in Charleston- A collaborative and intellectually engaging team consisting of 7 faculty members, 2 advanced practice providers, research coordinators, nursing staff, and comprehensive administrative support.
- Utilization of advanced diagnostics, multidisciplinary planning, and a wide array of medical and innovative therapies.
- Active involvement in research, fostering collaboration with our neurosciences program, the College of Health Professionals for Movement Rehabilitation, and the Center for Bio Imaging.
- Recognition through multiple national designations, including the Parkinson's Foundation Center of Excellence, Huntington's Disease Society of America Center of Excellence, and CurePSP Center of Care.
- A strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and teamwork.
- Specialized knowledge in Movement Disorders, including Parkinson's Disease, Huntington's Disease, Dystonia, and Deep Brain Stimulation.
- Board certification in Neurology and completion of a fellowship in movement disorders.
- An academic focus, enthusiasm for teaching, and a passion for outreach and research.
- Focus primarily on outpatient care.
- Robust interdisciplinary specialty support.
- Engagement in teaching medical students, neurology residents, and fellows.
- Opportunity to be involved in the movement disorders clinical research program, with numerous collaboration possibilities across the university and mentorship from senior investigators and principal investigators.
- Protected research time available based on the candidate's qualifications and background.
- Minimal on-call responsibilities, only 1-2 nights per month.
