Geriatric Specialist (N)

Job Overview

The Geriatrician serves as the primary physician for geriatric patients, as well as others, across various clinical settings within our organization. This role involves close collaboration with a diverse clinical care team, which includes specialty consultants, nurse practitioners, therapists, nursing staff, and additional healthcare providers.

Additionally, this position may encompass teaching duties associated with the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at a prestigious medical school, where our organization acts as a key clinical training site.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatments for long-term chronic care patients, including those transitioning from acute care, as well as outpatients.
• Prescribe medications and treatment plans tailored to the patient's medical conditions, demonstrating knowledge of relevant pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceutical aids, while instructing patients on proper usage.
• Refer patients to specialists and other relevant care components as necessary.
• Oversee and coordinate the patient care activities of clinical team members and support staff as needed.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to address each patient's unique needs.
• Participate in on-call duties during nights, weekends, and holidays as required for the practice area.
• Document each patient interaction promptly, typically on the same day, using the designated electronic medical record system.
• Complete and sign documentation in a timely manner to facilitate charge submissions by the billing department.
• Adhere to established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and quality improvement initiatives, as well as safety and infection control standards.
• Meet productivity targets set by the Department of Medicine Administration.
• Engage in health promotion, education, and preventive programs throughout the organization as appropriate.
• Train and supervise medical students, residents, and fellows involved in specialty activities and procedures.
• Contribute to quality improvement and review activities within the medical staff.
• Attend weekly Medical Staff Meetings.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: Must possess an MD or DO degree with a minimum of three years in an ABIM-recognized internal medicine or family practice residency.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited geriatric medicine fellowship program is preferred.
• License: Must hold a valid and unrestricted Massachusetts Medical License.
• Certification:
  • American Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, valid or renewed as necessary.
  • ABIM certification in geriatric medicine is preferred.
  • Federal DEA Certification.
  • CPR, BLS, and ACLS certifications as required by the specific practice location.

Experience

• Experience in training or practice caring for seniors in long-term chronic care, community, or home settings.
• Proven ability to deliver effective medical care in an inpatient environment.
• Capability to uphold quality, safety, and infection control standards.
• Familiarity with community medical diagnostic and patient care services relevant to the area of expertise.
• Experience working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the relevant field.
• Aptitude for supervising, advising, and training clinical professionals and students in the area of expertise.

This position is primarily on-site.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is between $197,901.00 and $279,389.00.
