Job Opportunity: Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist

Our organization is currently seeking a full-time Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist who is Board Certified or Board Eligible. This role comes with a faculty appointment at the School of Medicine, aligned with your training and experience.

Position Overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for both newly trained and seasoned clinicians/educators in metabolic genetics, as well as those with a broader interest in clinical genetics and genomics. Key responsibilities will encompass:

• Newborn screening
• Patient care
• Inpatient consultations
• Outpatient genetic clinics
• Collaboration in multidisciplinary team settings
• Teaching medical students, pediatric and neurology residents, and genetic counseling students
• Engaging in research activities

Protected time for research is available, and we encourage a focus on research initiatives. There are numerous opportunities for both intramural and extramural collaboration, as well as program development.

Clinical Practice Environment

The clinical genetics practice is diverse and extensive, providing a rich experience in various areas such as:

• Neurogenetics
• Cardiogenetics
• Cancer genetics
• Dysmorphology
• Congenital anomalies
• Other specialized genetics fields

The team consists of two full-time and two part-time geneticists, along with two per diem geneticists, four pediatric genetic counselors, and a genetic counseling assistant. A new multispecialty pediatric outpatient facility is set to open next year.

Laboratory and Educational Opportunities

Our clinical laboratory is in the process of establishing a cutting-edge genetic and genomic testing facility to deliver comprehensive diagnostic services throughout the health system, particularly benefiting the Inland Empire. This lab will include a PhD laboratory geneticist and a laboratory-based genetic counselor.

Additionally, the School of Medicine has recently accredited a graduate program (MS) in genetic counseling, with its inaugural class beginning in the fall of 2025.

Location and Facilities

Strategically situated in Southern California, our Medical Center and Children's Hospital boasts the largest Level IV NICU in the state, catering to the two largest counties in the nation and approximately 25% of California's population. The Children's Hospital is among the few facilities in California offering pediatric cardiac transplants and ECMO services. We are also developing a Perinatal Care Center focused on prenatal diagnosis to better serve high-risk pregnancies and infants with congenital anomalies diagnosed prenatally. Our Medical Center supports specialized team centers for conditions such as cystic fibrosis, hemoglobinopathies, spina bifida, metabolic genetics, and craniofacial anomalies.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting base compensation for this position ranges from $252,000 to $278,000, adjusted based on experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity incentives and is subject to departmental compensation plans.
