Data Collection Technician – Wearable AI Devices
Location: Redwood City, CA (Onsite)
Pay Rate: $22/hour
Duration: Short-term project with extension (ideal for students and individuals seeking flexible project-based work)
About the Role
We are seeking Data Collection Technicians to support an innovative AI research initiative focused on collecting real-world, first-person data using wearable technology. Team members will wear a lightweight headset equipped with cameras and sensors (similar in appearance to a VR headset worn on the forehead) while performing everyday activities in a variety of environments.
This role is perfect for someone who is tech-savvy, adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently while following structured procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operate wearable recording equipment according to project guidelines
- Perform scripted activities while capturing first-person video and sensor data
- Follow detailed data collection procedures and safety protocols
- Complete a variety of real-world tasks and scenarios used for AI training datasets
- Ensure accurate and complete recording sessions
- Troubleshoot basic device issues and escalate concerns when necessary
- Swap SD cards, monitor battery life, and manage local device storage
- Report equipment issues, collection challenges, and workflow feedback to project leads
- Adapt to evolving project requirements and collection protocols
- Attend onboarding, training sessions, and periodic office check-ins
- Maintain detailed documentation of completed activities and collection sessions
Activities may include:
- Meal preparation and cooking
- Cleaning and household organization
- Laundry-related tasks
- Food service and plating activities
- Gardening and outdoor maintenance
- Shopping and retail interactions
- Library visits and retrieving items from shelves
- Organizing workspaces and storage areas
- Caregiving simulation activities
- General day-to-day living activities
- Performing tasks in real-world indoor and outdoor environments
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting throughout collection sessions
- Ability to safely perform household and lifestyle activities
- Ability to wear recording equipment throughout assigned shifts
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying environments
Additional Information
- Initial onboarding and training will take place in office
- Team members will report regularly for equipment downloads, SD card exchanges, and project updates
