Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Glendale, AZ

Qualifications & Experience:

• Standard Arizona Orientation & Mobility Endorsement required
• Completion of an O&M program and current COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) credential
• Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card
• Previous experience working in school settings preferred
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with educational teams, students, and families
• Ability to adapt teaching strategies to diverse student needs
• High level of organization and professionalism

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques to students with visual impairments
• Assess and document students' O&M needs and develop individualized instructional plans
• Collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to optimize student progress and safety
• Conduct lessons in classroom, school campus, and community settings, focusing on independent travel and navigation skills
• Maintain accurate records and reports adhering to compliance standards
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to team decisions on student goals
• Offer support and consultation to staff regarding inclusive practices and accessibility
