Job Description
Make a lasting impact by supporting elementary-aged students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic, student-centered environment near Virginia Beach. This full-time contract opportunity offers the chance to provide 1:1 interpretation, ensuring access and inclusivity for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. You'll collaborate with educational teams and may be assigned across different schools within the area, allowing for a varied and engaging work experience.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
- Strong preference for candidates with an EIPA Score of 3.5 or higher (those with scores above 3.0 or a QAS score of 3 or better will be considered for interviews)
- Demonstrated expertise in American Sign Language interpretation in educational settings
- Ability to facilitate communication effectively for elementary school-aged children
- Flexibility to work in multiple school locations, providing coverage as needed
- Visaphonics experience is a plus, though not mandatory
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct, 1:1 sign language interpretation for elementary students across various educational contexts
- Support access to curriculum and school activities for deaf or hard of hearing students
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet individual student needs and communication preferences
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, and school staff
- Provide coverage for other interpreters or students in the district as needed
