Special Education Teacher in Spruce Pine, NC

Make a significant impact in the lives of students by bringing your expertise to an elementary and middle school setting as a Special Education Teacher. This contract position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated team of educators and support staff in an inclusive, supportive environment. You'll provide direct instruction and guidance to students with a range of learning needs, focusing on those who require toileting assistance, while having no feeding needs in the elementary classroom and only one student with a feeding tube in the middle school classroom.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's abilities and requirements
• Leading instruction for an elementary classroom of 6 students with the ongoing assistance of a Teaching Assistant and Behavior Technician
• Managing a middle school caseload of 11 students, supported by a team comprised of a fellow Teacher, three full-time Teaching Assistants, and a 1:1 aide
• Collaborating with classroom staff to ensure a safe, nurturing, and effective learning environment
• Supporting students with toileting assistance as needed and monitoring the well-being of a student with a feeding tube (middle school)
• Fostering academic, social, and emotional growth through engaging, differentiated lessons
• Communicating regularly with families and related service providers regarding student progress

Desired experience and qualifications:

• Valid licensure or certification as a Special Education Teacher
• Previous experience in special education, preferably with elementary and/or middle school students
• Comfort and compassion assisting with toileting and other personal care routines
• Ability to implement and modify instructional strategies based on individual student needs
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
