This opportunity runs from August 19, 2026, through early June 2027 (with the exact end date determined by school assignment), offering a chance to work closely with children and educators and foster inclusive educational experiences. You’ll fill a crucial role as part of a supportive team, ensuring students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing can fully participate in all aspects of the school day.

Key Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting in educational settings.
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially within schools.
  • EIPA certification, Illinois licensure, or equivalent credentials (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical interpretation practices.
  • Reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic about working with students across grade levels.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language and other auditory communication into ASL for students during classes and school events.
  • Accurately convey signed communication between students, teachers, and peers.
  • Adapt language register and vocabulary to meet individual student needs.
  • Maintain impartiality and facilitate inclusive participation.
  • Collaborate with educational staff and special education teams.
  • Support student progress in academics, social interactions, and extracurricular activities.
