NOTE: The San Diego Community College District accepts applications for adjunct (part-time/substitute) positions for our three college campuses (City, Mesa, Miramar) and various continuing education centers on a continuous basis. However, it does not necessarily imply there are immediate openings. If you meet the required minimum qualifications, your application will be included in the adjunct pool for possible assignments in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters of the academic year. Hiring departments utilize the adjunct pool when there is a need and will contact you directly should you possess the qualifications they are seeking. Applications are purged approximately one year from submittal, at which time you will receive an automated e-mail notice to re-apply if you wish to remain in the pool.\n
\nPart-time/temporary faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. As one of the largest community college districts in southern California, we offer a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, vocational and occupational programs. These part-time positions are as-needed and applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego. \n
\nAssignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus classes.\n

Major Responsibilities:\n
\n

\n
• Primary duties of adjunct faculty members are related to curriculum and teaching; the assignment is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Adjunct instructional faculty are required to be available to students outside of class.
\n
\n
\n

\n
\n

\n
• Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
\n

\n
\n

\n
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
\n

\n
\n

\n
• Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
\n

\n
\n

\n
• Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
\n

\n
\n

\n
• Teach all scheduled classes.
\n

\n
\n

\n
• Maintain accurate records.
\n

\n
\n

\n
• Provide quality instruction, create and maintain an environment which emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests and issues.
\n

\n
Qualifications:\n
\n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS \n
Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.\n
\nThe minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member to provide noncredit specialized instruction for students with disabilities shall be any one of the following:\n
\n
\n(1) Master's degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) Program or in a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following;\n
\n
\n(2) A bachelor's degree with any of the following majors: education of students with specific or multiple disabilities; special education; psychology; physical education with an emphasis in adaptive physical education; communicative disorders; rehabilitation; computer-based education; other computer-related majors which include course work on adapted or assistive computer technology for students with disabilities; other majors related to providing specialized instruction or services to persons with disabilities.\n
\n
\n(3) An associate degree with one of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and four years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category or categories being served.\n
\n
\n(4) For noncredit vocational courses, an associate degree or certificate of training; and four years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; and two years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category being served.\n
