Located in the northwest suburban area near Mount Prospect, IL, this position offers the chance to support educational access and inclusion within a dedicated and collaborative team.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Certification or credentialing as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting in school or educational settings is preferred
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Familiarity with educational terminology and sensitivity to student confidentiality
  • Ability to adapt communication style to both group and one-on-one environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with teachers, support staff, and families

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing during classroom instruction, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
  • Facilitate effective communication between students, educators, and peers
  • Support individualized education program (IEP) goals as they pertain to access and communication
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of interpreting assignments as required
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities relevant to interpreting and special education services
