Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, and reporting patient test results while maintaining accurate records.
Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested consistently with patient specimens and document all quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures in accordance with department SOPs and review test results for accuracy before release.
Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety regulations, maintaining compliance at all times.
Identify and troubleshoot potential issues affecting test performance, documenting corrective actions and reporting critical or STAT results promptly.
Maintain complete, organized records of all laboratory testing performed and ensure the general appearance and cleanliness of the department.
Verify reagent and test kit expiration and open dates, and review or train on new testing procedures as required.
Participate in safety training sessions, and assist with government or regulatory inspections when needed.
Respond to customer and laboratory personnel inquiries professionally and ensure confidentiality of patient information.
Required Skills
Solid understanding of basic and high-complexity laboratory testing techniques
Good computer skills with ability to navigate multiple laboratory information systems
Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) processes
Experience in hematology and slide reading
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-procedure environment
Strong communication skills for interacting with team members and clients
Additional Skills & Requirements
BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology; or Associates degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
Eligible for or possess national certification as an MT or MLT from organizations such as ASCP or AMT
Minimum one year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing, with preferred hematology experience and slide reading skills
Valid state and/or national licensure as required
Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple procedures simultaneously
Good customer service skills and commitment to patient confidentiality
Foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.-educated candidates must provide original transcripts
Work schedule may include varied shifts and participation in safety training and regulatory inspections as needed
