Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter within a vibrant educational environment near Portsmouth, VA. This full-time position (35 hours/week, Monday through Friday) spans the 2026–2027 school year, beginning August 25th, 2026 and concluding June 15th, 2027. You will primarily work 1:1 with elementary-aged students, providing communication access across campuses as needs arise. Flexibility is key, as assignments are determined based on student attendance and district coverage requirements.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
  • Strong preference for candidates with an EIPA score of 3.5+; those with 3.0+ or QAS score of 3+ are encouraged to apply
  • Experience in educational settings and working 1:1 with elementary students is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Visaphonics is valued but not mandatory
  • Ability to travel between locations within the Virginia Beach area may be needed
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding professional standards

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school-related communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Facilitate clear, responsive interactions between students, teachers, and peers
  • Adapt to changes in daily campus assignments to provide seamless support
  • Collaborate with educational staff to optimize student engagement and participation
  • Assist in fostering an inclusive environment that supports student growth
