This full-time opportunity places you onsite across multiple locations in the vibrant Phoenix, AZ area, supporting a diverse secondary student community from August 3 to May 21.
As a valued specialist, you’ll draw on your expertise and certification to provide crucial orientation and mobility instruction, collaborating with educational teams and families to foster independence for students with visual impairments. Your work directly impacts lives, helping young people access their education and community environments safely and effectively.
Qualifications:
- Active COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) credential
- Valid Arizona O&M Endorsement and completion of an accredited O&M program
- Current IVP Fingerprint Card
- Experience working with school-aged students in a K-12 setting preferred
- Passion for supporting students’ independence and a flexible, collaborative approach
Responsibilities:
- Conduct individualized assessments to determine students’ mobility needs
- Develop and deliver customized O&M curriculum and goals
- Instruct students in safe travel techniques within school, home, and community settings
- Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers
- Monitor progress, maintain documentation, and participate in IEP meetings
- Adapt instruction based on varied environments and student requirements
