Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Norfolk, Virginia

Bring your sign language expertise to a rewarding full-time role supporting students in the Virginia Beach area, close to Norfolk, VA. As a contract professional, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference providing 1:1 interpreting services, primarily for elementary students. Your skills will help bridge communication, facilitate learning, and foster an inclusive educational experience.

Key Qualifications:

• Hold a valid VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
• Preference for candidates with an EIPA Score of 3.5, but those scoring above 3.0 encouraged to apply; QAS Score of 3 or better also considered
• Experience or familiarity with Visaphonics is valued, though not a requirement
• Proven skills as a sign language interpreter, with experience in school settings
• Commitment to working the full academic year, Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver 1:1 sign language interpretation, supporting students (mainly elementary-aged)
• Adapt to assignment changes—your support may be reallocated to another student or location if needed, maximizing your impact across campuses
• Collaborate with educators and team members to ensure access and inclusion in all educational activities
• Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and adhere to district standards at all times

This position starts August 25, 2026, and continues through June 15, 2027. It is fully on-site within the district—no remote or hybrid work options. You'll have an opportunity to grow professionally, knowing your specialized skills are valued and essential to student success.
