Job Description
Make a meaningful impact supporting students’ mental health and well-being with a contract opportunity as a Mental Health Specialist for the 2025/26 school year. Located in vibrant Lapeer County, this role involves working directly with general education students in either elementary or high school settings. Use your expertise to provide individual and group social-emotional support, empower classrooms with professional learning, and collaborate in implementing positive behavior programs.
This position requires a Master’s degree—bachelor’s-level candidates will not be considered. The ideal candidate brings both licensure through LARA and a passion for helping students succeed.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required (no bachelor’s credentials accepted)
- Valid and active LARA license in Michigan (refer to state licensing guidelines)
- One or more of the following credentials:
- Licensed master’s level psychologist or limited license (with supervision)
- MDE credentialed master’s level school psychologist
- Licensed master’s level social worker or school social worker (or limited license with supervision)
- Licensed master’s level marriage and family therapist
- Licensed master’s level professional counselor (or limited license with supervision)
- School Counselor License, Michigan Teaching Certificate with NT endorsement, or other valid counselor credentials (some require licensing progression within 24 months)
- Experience providing social-emotional support in educational settings preferred
Responsibilities:
- Deliver counseling and support to students individually and in groups
- Collaborate with teachers and staff on professional learning and behavioral initiatives
- Contribute actively to positive school climate and program development
- Document interventions and track student progress
