Surgical Technologist (CST) - OR CORE

Location: 79 Jefferson St HH Bliss Wing (10064)

Shift Information: 40 hours per week, consisting of 5-8 hour shifts. Primarily day shifts (7 AM - 3 PM) with occasional rotations to evening and night shifts. Weekend shifts every third week (including calls), along with a weekday overnight call rotation and holiday shifts.

The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in providing support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Key responsibilities include:

• Ensuring the availability and proper arrangement of surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room for each procedure.
• Assisting the surgeon during operations in accordance with professional and legal standards.
• Cleaning the operating room post-procedure and ensuring the correct handling of equipment and materials.
• Reporting directly to the Manager.

The Core Operating Room department consists of around 80 highly skilled professionals who work collaboratively in a dynamic surgical environment. Our specialties encompass general surgery, gynecology, urology, plastic surgery, bariatrics, robotics, thoracics, trauma, and transplant procedures. Our team excels in managing a diverse range of surgical cases, functioning as integral members of a multidisciplinary team that includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, and support staff, all dedicated to delivering top-tier medical and surgical care. With a high volume of 60-80 surgical cases daily, we cater to patients seeking exceptional care from a facility equipped with advanced technology and procedures.

• Completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).
• Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
• Current CPR and BLS certification, along with participation in annual Validation Day.
• Familiarity with various surgical procedures, with the ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs and recognize potential challenges.
• Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation is essential.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strict compliance with policies and regulations regarding the maintenance of a sterile field.
• Understanding of basic patient care and safety principles.
• Application of aseptic principles to ensure optimal patient care.
• Awareness of emergency situations in the operating room.
