Make a meaningful impact supporting students’ independence as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in a dynamic educational environment near Mesa, AZ. This full-time, contract opportunity spans the academic year from August 3 through May 21, providing vital O&M services exclusively onsite across multiple school locations.
Your work will empower students with visual impairments to safely navigate their environments, build confidence, and access their full educational potential. Collaborate with dedicated school staff and families to tailor mobility programs and maximize each student’s success.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of an accredited Orientation and Mobility (O&M) program
- Valid COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) credential
- Standard Arizona O&M endorsement required
- Current IVP fingerprint clearance card
- Experience in school settings, particularly at the high school level, is preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to adapt instructional strategies
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments
- Conduct individualized assessments and develop student-centered instructional plans
- Collaborate with special education teams, staff, and families to ensure cohesive support
- Monitor progress, adapt goals, and maintain thorough documentation in accordance with district requirements
- Consult on accessibility of campus environments and participate in IEP meetings
- Uphold professional standards and ensure student safety during instruction
