Position: Senior Principal Packaging Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Minimum 3 days onsite; potential remote 2 days/week)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $53/hr
Duration: Through August 16, 2027 (with potential for full-time conversion)


In this role, you'll support Baxter's Pharmaceutical R&D team, leading packaging engineering initiatives focused primarily on sustaining engineering while also contributing to new product development and packaging innovation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support packaging engineering projects involving quality improvements, CAPA, regulatory compliance, supplier changes, cost savings, and new product introductions.
  • Manage multiple packaging projects with minimal supervision while ensuring project milestones are met.
  • Develop testing protocols, execute change control activities, and collaborate with manufacturing sites and suppliers.
  • Create packaging specifications, technical drawings, and packaging documentation.
  • Evaluate and approve new packaging materials, suppliers, and packaging systems.
  • Resolve packaging issues using root cause analysis, statistical methods, and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Generate cost-saving opportunities through packaging design improvements and material optimization.
  • Support packaging validation, verification testing, and manufacturing process qualifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering (preferred) or Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of Packaging Engineering experience (Principal-level experience preferred).
  • Experience within pharmaceutical, medical device, food, or beverage packaging industries.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials, specifications, validation, testing, and regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience managing packaging engineering projects from concept through implementation.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), Lean principles, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
