Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Chandler, Arizona

Make a meaningful impact supporting students’ independence and navigation skills as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist working full-time from August 3 to May 21. Located near Chandler, AZ, this contract opportunity will have you providing in-person support across multiple high school sites within a dynamic and diverse educational environment.

Utilize your specialized training to help students who are blind or visually impaired develop the confidence and practical skills needed to move safely and independently within their school and local community.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Arizona Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) endorsement
• Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
• Completion of an approved O&M program
• Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required
• Experience instructing children or adolescents who are blind or visually impaired in various educational settings
• Ability to travel between multiple campus sites as assigned
• Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs in accordance with IEP goals and state requirements
• Deliver individualized, evidence-based O&M instruction in both indoor and outdoor environments
• Collaborate with teachers, families, and related service providers to foster student success
• Maintain clear records of student progress and program compliance
• Adapt lessons and strategies to fit each student’s age, skill level, and specific visual needs
• Participate in IEP meetings and professional development activities as needed
