Our client close to Heathrow is looking for an Import Manager .SUMMARY As the Import Manager, you ensure an optimal and smooth operational execution in your area of responsibility, are accountable for the local P&L, leadership, and operational oversight in your respective area of the business You ensure best in class, quality service, customer compliance, satisfaction and operational proficiency that results in growth and profitability, meeting the country strategic goals and objectives Ensure Department is operating all Customs activities in adherence with AEO Compliance standards. You will have high levels of commercial awareness and be comfortable holding customer MBR and QBRs Responsible for process design, implementation and on-boarding of all new accounts secured by Commercial TeamsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead, develop, and manage an import team of 3 direct reports and an additional 10 in-direct reports, ensuring high levels of performance, engagement, and accountability. Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to direct reports and the wider team to achieve operational and business objectives. Conduct performance reviews, goal setting, and development planning for direct reports while supporting the growth and development of the wider team. Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention activities to ensure appropriate staffing levels and succession planning. Ensure the efficient and compliant processing of all import shipments in line with customer requirements and company standards. Maintain compliance with HMRC regulations, customs legislation, trade compliance requirements, and internal policies. Act as the primary escalation point for operational, customs, compliance, and customer service issues. Monitor departmental KPIs, productivity, service levels, and operational performance, implementing corrective actions where necessary. Lead the import department to achieve operational, financial, and budgetary targets through effective management of departmental P&L, resource utilization, cost control, and productivity performance Manage workload allocation and resource planning across the team to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, customs authorities, carriers, and overseas partners. Develop, review, and implement standard operating procedures and continuous improvement initiatives. Drive a culture of compliance, quality, safety, and customer focus throughout the import department. Ensure all customs declarations and import documentation are completed accurately and in accordance with regulatory requirements. Analyze operational data and prepare regular performance reports for senior management. Support sales and business development activities through operational expertise, customer meetings, and implementation of new business opportunities. Collaborate closely with Sales, Finance, Compliance, Warehousing, and Transport teams to achieve business objectives. Lead team meetings, communicate company objectives, and ensure alignment with departmental and organizational goals. Identify operational risks and implement corrective and preventative measures. Promote employee engagement, continuous improvement, and a high performance culture.QUALIFICATIONS Previous managerial experience in import, customs, or freight forwarding experience, leading operational teams. Proven experience managing and developing teams within a fast-paced freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or logistics environment. Demonstrated experience with departmental budget management and Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability, driving operational efficiency and financial performance. Strong understanding of international freight forwarding processes, including air freight, ocean freight, customs brokerage, and multimodal transportation.REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES Ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously in the work setting.
